Weekend Preview: New Moon And The Blind Side Will (Ninja) Assassinate Old Dogs And Mr. Fox

on Friday, November 27, 2009

Thanksgiving Weekend is typically one of the best weekends each year at the box office.  Parents are off of work, kids are out of school, and families are already together, and studios usually have a large selection of high profile releases to please audiences.  There's usually a lot of money flowing this weekend, and films often see very small drops, and occasionally even increase.  Thanksgiving Weekend really kicks off the holiday season at the box office, and while the movies will cool off a bit until mid-December, when people start having time off again, expect many of the titles you see over this frame to stick around for a while and continue earning money.  This year, between new releases (Old Dogs, Ninja Assassin, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and The Road), and some strong holdovers (New Moon and The Blind Side), there's going to be a tremendous amount of depth at the box office, though it's the returning films that are the real story this weekend.  You can see my weekend box office predictions (including a potentially crazy prediction for the number two film)  in the video above and then check below for the full prediction chart:

Grady I think your prediction for The Blind Side could actually come true. I'm glad you're not giving conservative estimates like other sites.

It came in at #1 on Thursday with 9.6 million, so let's see some solid numbers in the coming days.

will this possibly mean that The Road will actually expand to more theaters now so that the great unwashed of the boonies, and the people who can pay the money can finally see this amazing film. Hope springs eternal. eflan

I have heard The Road was a complete joke of a movie. Some critics are straight up giving it a ZERO. I have had 3 friends that have seen it and said they cant believe it was made into a movie because its just utter junk. I am going to see Bad Lieutenant tomorrow here in Seattle. Its only playing at 2 theaters in my State, both in Seattle, and I live about 30 minutes away, but im going to see it. I have heard great things about it.

I have seen The Road at Venice Film Festival, and I found it beautiful. Viggo is fantastic. Great father and son relationship.
I continue to be very surprised by the great success of the Blind Side. If it continues in this way it will reach 180 millions... uao!!!

Going by The Blind Side's performance so far, I do think it will be amongst the strongest holdovers from last week.

But will it surpass it's first weekend?

It'll be really interesting to find out the answer to that question!
